Becoming an Effective Product Owner – Do’s and Don’t

To be effective, a Product Owner needs to be:

  • Available
  • Business-Savvy
  • Communicative
  • Decisive
  • Empowered

Product Owner Do’s and Don’t

Do:

  • Provide clear product direction
  • Work with the team closely to clarify requirements
  • Actively manages the Product Backlog
  • Represent the business and customer needs

Don’t:

  • Assign work to Team members
  • Pressure the Team to over-commit Disrupt or disturb the Team during the Sprint
  • Micromanage the Team during the Sprint
  • Make changes to the Team’s commitment during the Sprint
